New housing development coming to downtown Bay City

BAY CITY, Mich. (WNEM) – A real estate company has purchased property in downtown Bay City with plans to build new lofts while preserving the history of the city.

The Bay Area Chamber of Commerce said Times Properties announced the Water Street Lofts will be its latest development.

The agency is co-owned by Matthew Meehan and Rod Hildebrant, and it has acquired nearly two blocks of land from Water Street to Washington Street and from 1st Street to 2nd Street, the chamber said.

The area was one home to the World’s Star Knitting Mill Company and later the Prime Event Center, which, as TV5 has reported, is being demolished.

The new complex will be a mixed-use residential and commercial building, which will be made up of 86 apartment lofts and various businesses, the chamber said.

The vacant lot across from the Boathouse, the factory warehouse behind it, and the Prime Event Center are all being cleared for the new development.

There has not yet been mention of when construction will begin.
