The 41st Microscope Ball raised over £540,000 to support people living with muscle-wasting conditions, the highest amount raised in the event’s history.
‘The Greatest Show’-themed occasion brought together 740 members of the commercial property industry on 25 September at the London Hilton on Park Lane with one common goal – to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy UK.
A total of £544,231 was raised on the night – smashing last year’s record-breaking total of £511,475 – which will help fund life-changing support for adults and children across the UK who are living with a muscle wasting and weakening condition.
The ball was hosted by Miss Demeanour and guests were greeted by a variety of circus performers followed by a spectacular dinner and a powerful performance from vocalist Emma Lindars. During dinner, guests heard from MDUK Trustee Chloe Docker and there was a live auction, hosted by auctioneer Jonny Gould, complemented by an online auction with over 50 lots to bid on. The highlight of the evening was the heartfelt speech by Kiera Santry, who spoke about her experiences living with limb girdle muscular dystrophy.
The Microscope Ball is the flagship fundraising event for Muscular Dystrophy UK and has raised over £8.5m to date.
The event also marked the launch of the Property Impact Fund, celebrating the incredible support – past, present, and future – from the property industry. Profits from the evening went directly into the fund.
Cathey Cullum, special events manager at Muscular Dystrophy UK said: “Every year, we’re blown away by the support in the room at the Microscope Ball and this year was no exception.
“The property industry has been fantastic at supporting us over the last four decades and we really can’t thank them enough for everything they do. The impact of the Microscope Ball and its committee is extraordinary – raising £1m between 1983 and 1999, £5m by 2016, and now over £8.5m to date following this year’s event.
“On behalf of the charity and everyone in our community, I’d like to say a huge thank you to all involved – from the committee behind the ball to sponsors and guests who came along on the night. Fundraising like this makes such a difference, enabling us to continue providing life changing support for people living with muscle wasting conditions.”
The event was sponsored by: Arke, Barr Gazetas, Bidwells, BW: Workplace Experts, CBRE, City Agents Society, Fairview New Homes, Fifth Dimension, Future Designs, Gowling WLG, Graphicks, HB Reavis, Ikon, Lendlease, Morgan Lovell, OCS, Property Week, ReFit, RX London, Siren, Sole Electrical, Tandem, Thirdway, West End Office Agents and Whitepaper.
