Ship and Shore Restaurant – Pub Style Comfort Food

Ship and Shore Owners

This establishment is ideally located on Vancouver Island between the cities of;
Qualicum Beach and Courtenay and off the; Old Island Highway.

They’re located almost in the middle of the two cities, on the shores of {Deep Bay}, about a 30 to 35 minutes drive from either direction.

The business has been around since the 1970’s, but present owner; Melanie and Bruce, have completely renovated the premise since taking over a few years back.
They have given it a relaxed and welcome home feeling, the moment you walk through the doors!

“The Ship & Shore offers our restaurant/lounge, serving comfort food and ice cold beverages, from a local island own brewery.”

The two have done a wonderful job of renovating the restaurant upon taking over. They offer a; comfy, cozy atmosphere, and everyone is welcome. It’s a casual pub style restaurant, with television’s all around, highlighting your; favorite sports event.

It’s also family friendly atmosphere arranged in a proper way, for everyone to enjoy.

Situated on the shores of {Deep Bay} and neighboring Marina, the view is simply spectacular!

In the summer, come and relax on their outdoor patio overlooking the Bay, while you enjoy your your favorite beverage and/or meal.

I’m always excited about discovering these out of the way “hidden gem” businesses, no matter where we travel to in the world. You don’t have to look too far to find these great – Foodie establishments.

For starters, just ask a local and they’ll tell you!

The Ship and Shore friendly chefs offer freshly prepared home cooked meals every day, with some surprising daily specials as well, to choose from.

From mouth watering burger and fries, homemade soups, salads, to their very own signature fish and chips. There’s bound to be something on their menu, to suit most everyone.

Below, check out a sample of what my wife and I enjoyed on our visit, a few seasons ago, for dinner.

Signature Fish and Chips

Melanie and Bruce have chosen to keep the original restaurant recipe for their; fish and chips dinners, and for very good reason. My wife selected the 2 piece cod dinner, and the serving was absolutely huge!

The cod was fresh and the deep fried batter was light, very tasty and not greasy at all. A great selection and perfect with a cold brew!

As a lover of homemade burgers and blue cheese, I simply couldn’t resist their very popular; Bison Burger!

Served with blue cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion and a pickle. This burger was delicious and loaded, served with your choice of fries, soup or salad.

Outstanding!

If you have room left over or just want to enjoy a cup of coffee and dessert, there’s two excellent regular menu choices to choose from.

Oh by the way, did I mention the fabulous view as well, for you to enjoy with dessert?

Brownie a la Mode … Berry Crumble

My wife and I sampled the huge portion of their fresh Berry Crumble, served with your choice of ice cream or whipping cream. It was superb and definitely worth trying when stopping by!

The meal was fabulous, the atmosphere was perfect and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. This is definitely one of Vancouver Island’s; Hidden Gems, and we’re so glad we discovered this business.

We can’t wait to return with our family and friends to enjoy another superb meal!

The owner’s and chefs of {Ship and Shore}, are pleased to offer the majority of their menu, served as; {Gluten Free}, upon request. So not to worry, those needing a gluten free diet and vegetarians alike, there’s something here for you as well.

Ship and Shore has its own boat launch and marine fuel station as well. I’m not sure if their campsites are still open. Be sure to check with them directly, for more updated information.
