ROGERS — The city is warning residents and developers about reports of fraudulent emails and invoices being sent to developers and property owners requesting money.

The emails may appear to come from a city department and request wire transfers or ACH payments for permit review or application fees, according to a news release from the city. The message are not legitimate.

All permit and development applications with the city’s Community Development or Risk Reduction departments must be submitted through the city’s official Online Permitting Portal, the release states.

Payments are only made after a permit application is created in the portal and reviewed by city staff. The city never accepts ACH or wire transfers for permits or development fees, according to the release.

Official city staff email addresses always end in @rogersar.gov, the release states. Any email from a different domain, such as @usa.com or similar, is not from the city and should be ignored. However, email addresses can also be faked, so an email from a @rogersar.gov domain does not guarantee that it originated from the city, according to the release.
