The Railway Museum Of British Columbia In Squamish BC
Located in the City of Squamish in British Columbia, Canada is the …
Railway Museum Of British Columbia
Recognized as one of the foremost {Train Museums} in Canada, this attraction formerly known as;
The West Coast Railway Heritage Park, is definitely worth a visit.
When traveling along the beautiful Sea to Sky Highway between the City of Vancouver and Whistler BC,
this major attraction is just one of the many located in this part of the Province of British Columbia.
The Railway Association has done a magnificent job of displaying and preserving part of our railway heritage, here in British Columbia.
A Railway Museum Heritage Park For The Entire Family
On our visit, we were so impressed with all the wonderfully restored locomotives and rail cars beautifully displayed, both indoors in the Roundhouse and outdoors as well.
I was thrilled to see the magnificent Historic Steam Train {The Royal Hudson}, proudly on display inside the Roundhouse.
Owned by the Canadian Pacific Railway and built in 1938, the Hudson is one of the few remaining;
Steam Locomotives.
Housed indoors, this amazing locomotive will be around for years to come, for all to view. My wife and I had the pleasure of riding the {Royal Hudson} when it was in service, making excursion trips from Vancouver to Squamish many years ago.
This site is now Western Canada’s largest collection of heritage locomotives and rail cars.
The Rail Car Museum And Interactive Displays
As you walk through the many authentic and well preserved rail cars on display, a number of the cars include;
unique and original artifacts from BC Railway days.
From dishware, clothing, signs and posters to original photographs taken of years past on the west coast railway,
you really get a feel of the wonderful history of rail travel of years gone by.
How important trains were in early years!
All beautifully displayed, taking you back in time when rail travel was in its glory!
Explore; luxury cars, standard sleeper cars, mail cars, cabooses to passenger locomotives, this museum has it all.
You even get to enter an {In Progress} work building on site.
It gives you an opportunity to view some of the continuing restorations, that are always taking place inside.
There is more than just trains at this Heritage Park!
An Original Squamish Heritage Home On Site
Stroll inside a beautifully kept 1930’s Squamish Heritage Home, complete with authentic furnishings.
Walking inside this beautiful heritage home, really takes you back to what life and living in the 1930’s, was like for many residents living in this area at that time.
There are other outbuildings for you to walk among, as well as a tea house, to sit back and just relax on the grounds.
Ride The Railway Museum Mini-Rail – Kids Will Love
Kids will be delighted with the mini-rail ride that travels around the park, as well as a small playground area for them. Throughout the year, the park also hosts exciting theme visits for the entire family.
There’s; Thomas the Tank Engine, Polar Express and Halloween Frightfest for example. Just a touch of some additional attractions to keep you wanting to return over and over!
There’s also an interactive rail car, where you have fun and try your skills out on the locomotive simulators.
See if you’ve got what it takes to handle hauling tons of train down the tracks!
