Popular Must See Attractions In Kuala Lumpur

While much of South East Asia may be in varying stages of development, Malaysia is arguably one of the most developed. Parts of the capital city (Kuala Lumpur,) seem every bit as modern and polished as any western city you will find.

It definitely does not mean that this city has lost its charm or its heritage. KL (as the locals know it), is a Bustling Metropolis,full of great things to do, see and to eat. Getting to know the city is a pleasure and in this post, I am going to take you through a few of the highlights on a whirlwind tour.

Visiting The City Center

The first place you need to go in Kuala Lumpur is straight to the city center, where you’ll find plenty of shops and impressive high-rises. The first stop for most tourists of course, is to the … The Twin Towers

These are the tallest twin towers in the world, standing proudly over KL’s equivalent of; Central Park in New York City (albeit a little smaller).

For an amazing view of the city, I highly recommend taking a trip up to the Sky Bridge, the world’s highest two story bridge, for a spectacular view of the city and surrounding area.

Visit The KL Tower

Sadly, the two things you cannot see from the Sky Bridge, are the towers themselves. If you get the chance, head up to the {KL Tower} for a Panoramic 360 Degree View of the city, as well.

Shopping In Kuala Lumpur

Before the day ends, spend some time shopping. There are many beautiful shopping malls in the city within easy reach. Perhaps the most popular though are Pavilion and Suria KLCC, considered by some as a more touristy shopping area and filled with luxury shops.

Dining In The City

You will never be short of places to eat in KL and if you fancy a quick snack, there are food courts and small restaurants everywhere. In the evening though, it might be worth exploring some of the higher-end restaurants that
Malaysia has to offer.

The Bijan restaurant for example, serves authentic Malaysia cuisine including; beef, chicken satay and various dishes with less recognizable names such as; popiah goreng.

Batu Caves and Cave Temple

The simplest way to get there is by train. It’s only 1 transfer from the city central and takes about 30-45 minutes depending on the train times. If you prefer to travel in more comfort, then a taxi is certainly more convenient.

It will be more costly and given the traffic congestion, it could take even longer.

The Caves Themselves

The caves are made of limestone and the main cavern is free to enter. Be prepared, as you will first have to walk up 272 steps. There is also a rather impressive Golden Buddha Statue standing 43 meters tall, at the entrance.

Within the main cave there are various Hindu Shrines and the caves themselves are immensely impressive, with huge vaulted ceilings. There are also some smaller caves which you can walk about.

For those who enjoy and nature and the outdoors, be sure to visit the … Bukit Nanas Forest, covering over 10 hectares and is home to a variety of plants and wildlife.

Little India & China Town

On day three, why not experience perhaps the best aspects of KL. It’s time to enjoy the mix of cultures and cuisine.
First, head over to 🧱 Brickfields, 🧱 where you will find KL’s … Little India

This place got its name as the center of 🧱 brick making in the 19th century, shortly after flood and fire destroyed most of the town’s wooden homes (hence the need for brick construction). This area is a great place to find various Temples and Monuments, but if you are a fan of Indian food, this is a must visit place to dine.

Do not be put off by the down-market appearance of these restaurants, as this is where you will find some of the ..

China Town

Back towards the city center, you will also find; Petaling Street, which is right in the heart of KL’s China Town.
The best time to visit is in the evening, as the sun is going down.

This is when Petaling Street lights up and becomes a Bustling Night Market, full of questionable “Branded” merchandise.

Definitely worth the trip to enjoy the atmosphere Chinatown offers in the evening hours. It’s a great place to dine as well. There are some higher-end restaurants to be found, and plenty of street food as well.

If you’re lucky, you might even catch a {festival or procession}, depending on the time of year.
