KLM Royal Dutch Airlines Economy Comfort Class

My wife and I recently flew with KLM from Vancouver, BC to Tanzania, Africa.
It was a total of 2 flights each way, with connections in Amsterdam.
Below is our experience flying in their …

KLM Economy Comfort Class

There is a BIG difference between; {Economy Comfort} and {Premium Comfort Class}.

KLM Economy Comfort Class Seating

Depending on the flight and aircraft, both services may or may not be available to select, when booking your flights.

It will show you an option of classes to choose from;

Economy … Premium Comfort … Business

KLM Seat Classes

When you select an economy ticket flight you wish to purchase, you may or may not get an additional choice.

There are 3 ticket options for travelling in {Economy Class} on most routes: Light, Standard, and Flex.

Standard Plus is referred to as … Economy Comfort.

Confused

Well, as it turned out after taking our 4 international flights, so was I.
After making our reservations, I assumed we were booking {Premium Economy Class} seats.

In my past experience, this is what it is normally referred to with most other airlines.

KLM Economy Comfort Class Amenities

If you do choose this class, this is what you can expect to receive over that of their;
Basic Economy Fare Seating:

5 cm more legroom than a standard seat; 4-5 cm more recline than a standard seat; Seating is located in the front of the aircraft, right behind Premium Comfort Class and/or Business Class; 2 checked bags; Sky Priority Check In – (If you fly on a Flex ticket within Europe in Economy Class).

Your seats are at the very front of the economy cabin, and retain the same configuration as standard economy seats.

You are definitely not getting {Premium Economy} sized seats or service.

Different KLM aircraft have different-sized economy comfort sections, which may or may not include:

{Economy Comfort} and {Premium Comfort Class}.

KLM Economy Comfort Class – Meals

Your meals on international flights, like ours, are the same as; Basic Economy class.
Free drinks, snacks and meals, are included in your base fare.

Our 4 flights were onboard KLM’s Boeing 777’s and 787’s, and were just over 9 hours in length for each flight.

Meals and snacks were quite good on all flights, with a choice of wine and/or beer included. This along with the usual; juices, coffee/tea and soft drinks.

Our flight attendants looked to be mostly senior, who provided friendly and excellent service.

KLM Premium Comfort Class

KLM-Premium-Comfort-Class

This is what is normally referred to as {Premium Economy}, on most other major airlines we’ve flown with over the years.

We’ve had the pleasure of flying in; Premium Economy and Business Class, on a few international flights over the years.
We save up our Airline Credit Card reward miles, and redeem them for these upgrades.

Final Thoughts Banner

It really is a matter of choice and what your budget will allow for. As we booked our tickets for these flights well in advance, we had the choice of seating.

We were lucky enough to select the very first row of seating in this class, directly behind;
Premium Comfort and/or Business Class.
This meant no seats in front of us, allowing much more leg room similar to that of an; exit row seat.

The only downside with the first row, is your middle arm rest cannot lift up, as your tray table is inside.
My wife usually likes to lift the armrest to allow for a little more hip room.

Priority Check In was a bonus, especially with these aircraft being so large. We had no waits at all, during our check in process on each flight.

Depending on the flight and the extra cost, it is a matter of preference whether this upgrade is worth it.

For us, it was worth the extra expense, but {Premium Comfort} if you can afford the upgrade, is definitely the way to go!

Especially, if you’re taking a long-haul flight.
All four of our flights were comfortable and we received very good service from our flight attendants.

Although I was expecting Premium Economy Class, it was an error on my part for not looking closer, at the different classes offered when making my booking online.

If you travel often, I’m sure you’re noticing like me, that many airlines are now changing to different classes in economy. I’m even seeing airlines beginning to charge extra for carry on luggage!
