COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – Georgia developer Landmark Properties announced Wednesday that it will begin developing a new student housing complex near Williams-Brice Stadium.
Located at 1401 Shop Road, a 22.35-acre site in Columbia, The Walk on Shop Road is planned as an 825-bed, 196-unit student housing complex.
Offering two-to-six-bedroom townhome units, each home will be fully furnished and include in-unit laundry, private baths, and hardwood floors, among other in-home amenities.
All units will come prewired for high-speed cable and Internet as well.
The complex will also offer a swimming pool, Jumbotron, cabanas and hammocks, fire pits, fitness center, sports simulator, a wellness suite, campus shuttle bus and on-site management.
Landmark Properties also developed other student-housing complexes in South Carolina, including Midlands properties SAGA at Columbia, The Standard, and The Retreat.
Chief Development Officer for Landmark Properties, Jason Doornbos, said the new development will help ease the strain on Columbia-area housing as the number of students enrolled at the University of South Carolina continues to rise.
“Landmark Properties is happy to announce this latest development serving the University of South Carolina – and the first in our new brand line, The Walk,” Doornbos said in a statement. “Just steps from Williams-Brice Stadium with easy access to the campus, the community will bring much-needed housing to the Columbia market as the university’s enrollment surpasses 40,000 students.”
Construction is expected to begin soon, and the property is expected to be open for the 2027-2028 school year.
