Discovering Serbia By Motorcycle

Serbia is definitely a European country that is not widely considered a tourist destination, but after learning more and including the article below, it may inspire you and as it has me, to visit this beautiful country one day.

Tips For Enjoying Serbia By Motorcycle

For single travelers, moto touring is one of the best ways to meet new people, and travel in freedom. One of the not so popular countries for motorcycling tours in Europe, is definitively; Serbia.

This wild {Slavic} land situated in the middle of the Balkan Peninsula, is a hidden gem for motorcycle travelers.
The country fascinates not only with its divine nature and picturesque landscapes, but also with its numerous monuments, excellent nightlife options and the absolutely; amazing Serbian cuisine!

Before you get on your motorbike, I would like to give you few helpful travel tips, in order to make your trip more pleasant and convenient, traveling throughout the country.

Serbia is situated in the Balkans of Southern Europe. The Capital of Serbia is; Belgrade, and where most tourists flock to in the summer months.

Serbians invite tourists to their country with open arms and hearts, and love to speak English with visitors!

Full of; history, beautiful National Parks, monuments and so much more, there’s something for everyone in Serbia.

Entry Requirements For Serbia

Serbia by Motorcycle Tip #1

Entering Serbia is quite easy as long as you have your; Passport, Driver’s License, Motor Insurance Certificate and an International Driving Permit.

With these in hand, you shouldn’t have any difficulties or problems, at borders.

Visas

Travel Visa

Citizens of; United Kingdom, USA, Canada, Chile, Israel, Singapore, Japan, Australia and others, have {visa-free access}, for a maximum stay of 90 days.

It’s also good to know that if you do plan on staying in Serbia for more than twelve hours, then you must notify the local police station. If you check into your hotel or motel, then they will take care of this for you. In most cases, no one cares.

However, sometimes the authorities will ask for an ID, and make a call. If this is the case, don’t panic, as they are just doing their job.

Road tolls are not expensive here either. If riding on the highway throughout the entire country, you will only pay under 10 dollars. The quality of the infrastructure (including roads), is not as that of other; European Union countries.

Therefore, you should be very careful when riding on many domestic roads, as it could be pretty uncomfortable. Do not drive above the speed limit, as the Serbian roads are pretty old. Most of them are built some forty years ago and they are; “rich” in bumps and holes!

Road signage is quite adequate and you shouldn’t get lost, making your way to your specific destination. During your travels, if you would like to see some of the country’s natural beauty, and/or monuments along the way, you should be able to find them quite easy.

However, if (by any chance) you do get lost, just stop and ask someone. Most will gladly help, and have you back on track in no time.

Serbians are friendly people, who show a lot of hospitality towards foreigners. Despite what mass-media may have presented Serbia to foreigners in the past. Most of the people are eager to assist, or help you in a difficult situation, you may encounter during your trip. You can seek help almost anywhere.

If you feel tired, it’s recommended to take a break, even if it’s for a short while.

Serbia Google Map

Most of the roads, even old ones, are mapped into most GPS gadgets. These days, Google Maps are outstanding for road travel.

The Serbian Automobile and Motorcycle Association (AMSS) are always at your disposal, should you encounter any problems on the road. They offer assistance in any case and anytime 24/7, throughout the year.
The emergency number for this association is; + 381 11 1987.

Motorcycle Safety Equipment

Serbia by Motorcycle Tip #2

Don’t forget that the equipment for your bike trip, should always contain a; First Aid Kit reflective jacket (especially if you plan to ride at night), motorcycle boots, dual sport tires and without saying, an approved safety helmet.

Motorcycle boots are extremely important, to protect your feet and ankles. The performance on the road, depends on the tires you choose for your trip. My advice is to use; dual sport tires, for safety and comfort for your trip.

If you decide to travel during the winter season, appropriate tires for your motorcycle, are highly recommended.

As a matter of fact, you can be fined and/or jailed by the authorities, for not being properly equipped.

Serbian Currency

Serbia by Motorcycle Tip #3

The official currency is the Serbian dinar (RSD).

Gas stations are almost everywhere on Serbia’s main roads. You shouldn’t have to worry about running out of petrol, on any main roads. Its quality is according to European standards, and controlled on monthly basis.

Payments are usually made in the national currency of Serbia (Dinar), but the Euro is also widely accepted. All the gas stations have {POS} terminals, so you should be able to pay with; credit or debit card as well.

You should be careful when exchanging your money. The exchange rate in most private offices, is much better than in the banks. Unlike that, in many other places around the world. If you wish to convert your dollars to dinars, it’s recommended to do it there.

Serbian Cuisine

Serbia by Motorcycle Tip #4

roasted-pecenje

When taking a break, or feeling hungry during your trip, there are many motels, alongside the main highways. I highly recommend trying traditional; Serbian cuisine.
For example,
Pecenje which is roasted and grilled meat. Prepared by putting the whole lamb (or piglet) on a long stick, then roasted over fire, for at least a couple of hours.

Delicious!

You can taste this typical Serbian meal in the so called “pecenjare” restaurants. In these places, it’s a chance to meet travelers from all over the world. Many stopping in, to have a bite and plan the next stage of their trip.

Truck drivers, bikers and common travelers are just a small part of the people, that explore this beautiful Slavic land and everything it has to offer!
