Boston real estate developer Tom O’Brien will declare his candidacy for mayor next week, according to several reports.

O’Brien, CEO of HYM Investments and former planning chief under then-Mayor Tom Menino, is expected to make the announcement in East Boston at some point next week, according to the Boston Globe. He joins Josh Kraft, son of New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, in challenging Mayor Michelle Wu, who is expected to officially launch her campaign for reelection on April 5.

O’Brien is the developer of multiple prominent ongoing projects in the Boston area, including the transformation of the Government Center parking garage into a massive, multi-building residential and office campus and the redevelopment of the former Suffolk Downs racetrack site on the Boston-Revere line. Previous projects include Boston Landing, the Allston campus that is home to the Boston Bruins practice facility.
