Cancun authorities shut down residential real estate developer selling illegal lots

Cancun, Q.R. — Municipal authorities in Cancun have shut down a residential real estate project found operating illegally. Residencial Hakuna Cancun was permanently closed from selling plots for residential purposes after it was found without permits to sell.

The residental real estate project was shut by city officials Monday “for being irregular by not having the corresponding consents before the municipal, state and federal government agencies,” Cancun City Council said in a statement.

Mayor Ana Paty Peralta was at the site when officials from the Secretariat of Ecology and Urban Development closed the development.

“Today we are closing another alleged subdivision that is being advertised and marketed on social media under the name ‘Hakuna’ illegally because it does not have any type of permit, neither from the Secretariat of Ecology and Urban Development, nor from the state, nor from any authority of the Government of Mexico,” she said.

Nahielli Margarita Orozco Lozano, who heads the city’s Ecology and Urban Development, was also at the site when the real estate project was shut down.

Paty Peralta said on Monday that the operation was carried out in coordination with personnel from the Environmental Protection Agency (PPA) to place the corresponding closure seals at each instance.

“We ask all Cancun residents to verify before buying, before investing in the property, that it is not an irregular development because if not, there will be no services and the sellers will be committing an illegal act. We do not want any type of irregular subdivision to continue developing,” she stressed.

The illegal residential real estate development project called Residencial Hakuna Cancun was closed Monday by the Secretary General, Pablo Gutiérrez Fernández along with the Director of Civil Protection, Antonio Riveroll Ribbón and Ecology, Fernando Haro Salinas.

Francisco Javier Zubirán Padilla from Urban Development was also part of the closing authority as were inspectors from various institutions.
