Greeting a passersby with “aloha!” and asking where to get a lei in Vietnam will get you absolutely nowhere, but believe it not there’s a growing paradise being dubbed the ‘Hawaii’ of the nation.

Unlike the real Hawaii, however, this stunning island is relatively unknown despite being one of the fastest growing destinations in Asia.

Best of all, even as much-needed investments pour in to make this textbook paradise a Southeast Asia powerhouse, prices are far more palatable than what you’d find in Honolulu, Kona, or Maui.

As spring will arrive before we know it, there’s no better time to put your passport to good use by booking an epic beach vacation, and when doing so in Phu Quoc, take advantage while you can before word spreads how incredibly beautiful, blissful, and unspoiled this island truly is.

One Of Asia’s Most Affordable Paradises

Asia is arguably the most wondrous continent of the seven, with bustling metropolises that overwhelm with sensory overload of sights, sounds, and aromas, picturesque villages unlike anything back home, and thousands of breathtaking islands ranging from the Philippines to Thailand and, yes, Vietnam.

Phu Quoc is the fifth-fastest growing destination in all of Southeast Asia, but Thailand looms large with more recognizable names like Bangkok and Phuket.

Phu Quoc Is Brimming With Astounding Nature

As a travel writer, I admit the word “paradise” is probably overused, but what other word is there for faraway island lined with miles of white sand beaches, crystal-clear waters filled with vibrant marine life, and lush jungles of swaying palm trees?

“Paradise” seems about right.

Travelers will find some of Vietnam’s most scenic beaches here, such as popular Sao Beach and Long Beach, but also more remote hideaways like Starfish Beach, where, you guessed it, is the place to find dozens if not hundreds of starfish living their best starfish lives.

Just don’t mimic them too much by sprawling out poolside your whole trip, as there are ample resorts dotting the coast for relaxing beach days.

On the flip side, there’s also numerous activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, diving, and boat tours for those who like to get out on the water rather than watch the tide roll in.

Another great way to explore Phu Quoc’s natural beauty is by booking an island-hopping snorkel tour. You have never seen so much clear water in your life, and it feels like swimming in bathwater in spring.

Then there are the island’s nature trails leading to postcard-worthy waterfalls, such as Suoi Tranh, Da Ngon, and Suoi Tien, which are typically the least crowded and great for swimming.

Rich Culture & Surprising Attractions

Phu Quoc could easily be mistaken for Cambodia as it’s nestled in between Vietnam’s mainland and Cambodia’s underrated coastline in the Gulf of Thailand.

That might be a mouthful, but it just foreshadows how sinfully delicious the food is on this multi-cultural island.

While you can certainly find quiet spots to unwind, there’s also an urban jungle to explore, with lively night markets, panoramic rooftop bars, and timeless temples.
