Anantara Quy Nhon Resort: A Luxury Hideaway on Vietnam’s Coastline

Escape to Anantara Quy Nhon Resort in Vietnam’s serene Binh Dinh province. With just 25 oceanfront villas, breathtaking South China Sea views, and tranquil luxury, it’s the perfect hidden retreat for travelers seeking peace and indulgence.

Rolling through the lush, undulating hills outside Quy Nhon, the last thing my wife and I expected was for our booked resort to stop us in our tracks as we reached the lobby. But that’s precisely what happened at Anantara Quy Nhon Resort. We pulled into a circular drive centred on a feng shui-inspired water feature—a bodhi tree rising gracefully from its middle. Then came the open-air lobby, the hush of nature, and that sweeping ocean vista. It wasn’t just a welcome. It was a pause.

Just beyond the entry, the South China Sea unfurled before us—deep blue, dotted with tiny islets and fishing boats bobbing in rhythm with the waves. Here, in Vietnam’s often-overlooked Binh Dinh province, luxury hotel chain Anantara has carved out a space that’s both intimate and expansive at once. Only 25 villas with uninterrupted sea views stretch across seven hectares of tropical coastline. This isn’t merely a hotel stay; it’s a hideaway.

Our Villa Host, Quy, welcomed us not with formal stiffness but with a genuine smile and a WhatsApp number. “Anything you need, just message,” he said. Over the next three days, we learned that our ‘Butler’ was not exaggerating.

Where Privacy Meets Panoramic Luxury

Our Beachfront Pool Villa, spanning 2,012 sq. ft., blurred the line between indoors and outdoors. One step through the sliding glass doors, a timber deck greeted us, our private infinity pool, and beyond that, the soft blond sands of Bãi Xép Beach. We could hear the water in the background of every moment, and we felt time slow down.

Inside, the villa mirrored the tranquillity of the view. Bamboo accents, natural wood tones, and soft green textiles reflected the coastal surroundings. The bathroom was a standout, featuring a freestanding tub set against full-height windows that offered a direct view of the beach. Lingering long in that tub was a delight, especially after sunset, when the light softened and the sea turned to ink.

Among the thoughtful touches: a wine fridge stocked with hand-selected bottles, a Nespresso machine, curated teas, cocktail fixings, even individual tubs of ice cream. The in-room Bluetooth speaker provided our soundscape; we never once turned on the TV.

Little Luxuries That Make a Big Difference

A private pool is one thing; a breezy, poolside sala is another—a cushioned, fan-cooled outdoor nook with a daybed for two where we dozed after a dip and enjoyed a chilled drink while listening to the waves. Adding yoga mats, Anantara’s luxe bath products, and robes soft enough to live in made it clear: this was a highly intuitive anticipation of a guest’s needs.

We watched fishing boats head out late afternoon and return in the morning, gliding across the crescent bay like quiet rituals. The rhythm of local life was never far from the luxury.

During the day, we drifted between the beach and the resort’s central pool, complete with a swim-up bar. As we lazed, a discreet server offered a juice shot before noon, and sorbet or fruit skewers as the afternoon unfolded—no announcements, no fanfare – just thoughtful, quiet luxury.

And then came Sea.Fire.Salt.

A Culinary Journey Worth the Flight

Though it’s an all-day dining venue, the resort’s only restaurant never felt generic. Mornings featured an abundant mix of fresh tropical fruit, made-to-order dishes, and Vietnamese staples, such as banh xeo and steaming bowls of pho. We were encouraged to try the local favorites, and we were grateful that we did.

By night, Sea.Fire.Salt transformed into a culinary showcase of the region. One evening, we savored shellfish risotto rich in crab, mussels, clams, and oysters, steeped in a briny, slow-cooked stock. Another highlight was grilled tuna served on a hot Himalayan salt brick—flavor layered upon flavor. The wine list was extensive and global, but the staff’s intuitive pairings stood out.

That dining experience, like everything at Anantara Quy Nhon, felt curated, not choreographed. Our servers remembered our plans, inquired about our day, and offered suggestions from a place of genuine knowledge and pride, not script.

Sunrise Yoga and A Spa Designed for Stillness

Mornings began with yoga on a teak deck overlooking the sea, surrounded by thick jungle. Tucked into the hillside, the Spa is a masterpiece of tropical architecture. It feels like a sanctuary within a sanctuary.

Treatments utilize organic herbs grown on-site, including lemongrass, ginger, and turmeric. The wellness menu ranges from jet lag recovery to comprehensive three-day immersion programs. It’s where I first discovered the resort’s “Balance Wellness” program—think chakra realignment, sound bath therapy, and even moon salutation yoga under the stars. Even if you don’t book a treatment, this hilltop retreat is worth a visit—whether for sunrise yoga or to sit in stillness and let the view do the healing.

Tucked among the villas is a sleek, light-filled gym, along with a rotating calendar of activities for guests who crave movement alongside mindfulness.

Out and About in Quy Nhon

You could spend three days inside the resort and never run out of things to do—or reasons not to leave. However, we were glad we ventured out. With its stunning beaches, exceptional seafood, and historical significance, Quy Nhon remains largely unknown outside of Vietnam, making it feel wonderfully authentic.

With the help of the resort’s Discovery Guide, we explored nearby villages, met artisans who continue to craft conical hats and handmade rice noodles, and stepped back in time to ancient Champa sites. The region’s martial arts tradition, Việt Võ Đạo, is fierce and beautiful, and we even caught a demonstration. However, the spontaneous moments—sharing rice wine in a village home and hearing folk tales from our local guide—truly made the experience.

Thoughtful Moments That Stay With You

Anantara Quy Nhon isn’t trying to be flamboyant. It doesn’t need to be. What makes it unforgettable are the moments you least expect.

A chilled drink appears beside your towel after a swim. Complimentary cocktails during what they call the “Happiest Hour”—a kind of prelude to Happy Hour. A genuine inquiry from a staff member who remembers you had been on a day trip.

There’s an exceptional generosity of spirit here that’s difficult to replicate. It’s ingrained in the scale of the resort, the quality of service, and the authenticity of the experience. This represents luxury, yes. But it also embodies a connection—human, cultural, and environmental.

How to Get Here—and When to Go

Anantara Quy Nhon Villas is situated approximately 8 miles (12 kilometers) south of Quy Nhon City in Binh Dinh Province, along Vietnam’s south-central coast. The nearest airport is Phu Cat Airport (UIH), about 45 minutes away. Domestic flights operate from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang. Anantara can arrange private transfers, which are worth it—the scenery alone makes the drive part of the experience.

Another unique way to arrive is via The Vietage, Anantara’s luxury train that connects Quy Nhon and Da Nang. With private booths, gourmet dining, and onboard spa treatments, it’s a six-hour journey of slow-travel bliss through Vietnam’s countryside.

Explore Even More With Wander With Wonder

February to May is the optimal time to visit this region, characterized by dry, warm to hot, yet comfortable days. We stayed in early March, and although the seas were rougher than usual, the warm temperatures made our summer attire ideal. Nights were mild enough to leave the jacket in the wardrobe.

Trust me: this is the kind of place that doesn’t just create memories; it changes your rhythm.
