Travel season is fast approaching, so there’s no better time to make your travel plans.
If you want to step off the beaten path without jumping into the great unknown, visiting fast-growing global destinations is a great middle ground.
These are hot spots that are gaining traction without the crowds and overtourism of their better-known counterparts.
Viator has released its latest trend report, which reveals the five fastest-growing destinations right now.
These are an interesting mix of destinations offering beautiful outdoor activities and big, bustling cities.
5. Tromso, Norway
Three out of five of Viator’s fastest-growing destinations are beauty spots in cool climates.
This shows that travelers are craving a closer connection to nature in 2025.
And if it’s nature you want, then Tromso is a great vacation destination to choose!
According to Viator, interest in Trosmo has grown by 86%. This is thanks to its stunning natural beauty, unique wildlife spotting opportunities, and unique Sami culture. Some of the best cultural attractions in Trosmo include the iconic Arctic Cathedral and the Polar Museum.
Trosmo is most famous for being one of the best places in the world to spot the Northern Lights. It sits directly within the “Aurora Oval” making it a prime Aurora viewing area. If seeing the Northern Lights is on your bucket list, then September to April is the best time to visit.
4. Banff, Canada
There has been a 87% increase in interest in traveling to Banff.
This follows a general trend of the increased number of American travelers choosing to explore Canada in 2025.
Banff sits in Canada’s first National Park and is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks UNESCO World Heritage Site. Seeing this awe-inspiring feat of nature when it comes alive during the summer months is something that should be on your bucket list.
Hiking to get the best views is a popular pursuit here, but if you prefer a low-impact activity then take the Banff Gondola to an elevation of 700 meters at thesummit of Sulphur Mountain where you can enjoy epic views without the effort!
3. Rovaniemi, Finland
The most popular Scandinavian destination on this list and another cool weather hot spot is Rovaniemi in Finland.
Rovaniemi is best known as the home of Santa Claus in the winter months but don’t let that fool you into thinking this isn’t a great year-round destination.
Rovaniemi has seen an 88% increase in popularity thanks to its outstanding natural beauty and abundance of things to see and do.
During the summer months, the snow here has melted, but you can still meet huskies or visit a reindeer farm for a touch of festive magic.
You can also hike all night under the midnight sun, and the rivers of Kemijoki and Ounasjoki are both the perfect place for a picturesque kayak ride.
If you want to learn more about this fascinating part of the world then stop by Arktikum, a museum and science center that’s dedicated to both the Arctic region and the history of Finnish Lapland.
2. Destin, Florida
Florida is always a popular vacation destination, with Orlando and Miami attracting millions of visitors every year. But one lesser-known Florida hotspot is soaring in popularity: enter Destin, Florida.
Destin’s attention increased by 178% in 2025, and this doesn’t surprise me, as the city is home to the State’s most beautiful beaches. White sand beaches are surrounded by unusual emerald waters.
Fishing enthusiasts may have already heard of Destin, which has been called “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village” due to its abundance of deep-sea fishing options.
There are an incredible 20 species of edible game fish in the waters here.
And if you’re looking for an adrenaline pumping adventure, then head to Big Kahuna’s. This is Destin’s only water park and with more than 40 rides it has something for everyone.
1. Beijing, China
The fastest-growing destination in the world right now is Beijing, which has seen a whopping 290% increase in attention from Viator customers. China has reopened its borders to international travelers, and Americans can now visit for up to 10 days without the hassle of securing a visa.
Beijing is an accessible introduction to Greater China and a city I was proud to call home for more than a year. It’s packed full of incredible cultural attractions and has a rich history.
Explore the Forbidden City, an imposing imperial palace, and in front of this city sits Tian’anmen Square. This is one of the largest public squares in the world and a site of huge political significance. You can still visit the body of Chairman Mao which sits in that Mausoleum of Mao Zedong that is the square.
The best thing about Beijing? It has to be the food! Enjoy a steaming Beijing hot pot, Peking duck, or a donkey burger. The one and only time I’ve eaten donkey meat, and it tasted incredible!
