Historical Walking Food Tour In St. John’s Newfoundland – Canada
I absolutely love taking part in Guided Historical Walking Food Tours, when traveling to new destinations around the world.
On our latest travels to Newfoundland, we had the pleasure of joining …
NL Food Tours
in the City of St. John’s, Newfoundland.
An excellent walking food sampling tour in the historical district of; St. John’s.
NL Food Tours St. John’s 3 Hour Guided Walking Food Tour
Not only do you get to sample some of the local dishes in Newfoundland, but at the same time, an opportunity to learn about the history of {St. John’s} as you walk along its historical streets.
These types of tours are not only Eco-Friendly, but a great way to discover some local favorite eateries as well.
It’s also a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors, to discover and learn more about the city you are visiting and it’s history.
This gave us an opportunity to sample some of their excellent chocolates. We were also given time to purchase some of their products in the store if we wished to do so.
What To Expect On Your Food Tour
Our guide and owner of NL Food Tours (Christa) met us at a pre-arranged meeting point to begin our tour. It was a full group on this tour which is always great to see.
We always like meeting other travelers who also enjoy these types of tours as well.
Our first stop was to the very popular Newfoundland Chocolate Company. A great way to start the tour by sampling some fine chocolate to energize ourselves for the walk ahead!

St. John’s Historical District
We were then on our way stopping at some historical sites and statues placed in city. Christa explaining in detail, the history behind each stop we made along the way.
We certainly lucked out with a beautiful sunny day in late September day in St. John’s. A perfect day to be outside in the sunshine and enjoying the sites of the city!
It was time for our next stop located in {Old St. John’s}, for some authentic Newfoundland cuisine. Christa led us down the picturesque waterfront walkway for an opportunity for pictures of renowned St. John’s harbour.
Our next stop was to a refurbished historic building, now a restaurant and wine house.
We sampled 2 delicious local favorite Newfoundland dishes!
For those wishing to purchase additional wine or local craft beer, Christa allowed for plenty of time to; sit back, relax and enjoy these samples.
It also gave us all a chance to get to know our fellow companions as well.

Visiting Local Favorite Eateries
It was time to continue our journey to possibly St. John’s most favorite hidden gem .. The Rocket Bakery and Restaurant.
Judging by the huge crowd inside and out, I knew we must be in for a real treat!
Christa had us sample their signature {Fish Cakes}, which were absolutely amazing. Perhaps the best we have ever sampled anywhere on our travels!
The bakery items looked outstanding as well!
Plenty of time given to purchase some fresh baked cookies for later. It wasn’t hard to see why this is a favorite among locals after sampling their fish cakes and bakery selections!
We then continued our way down the revitalized and now very attractive historical street of St. John’s. We were making our way to our next and final stop on the tour.
It was time to sample some local wine and Tapas.
This was a perfect way to finish off the tour. To sit back and enjoy our final sampling, along with a taste of red or white wine.
From here, we were able to continue on our way at the conclusion of the tour, at our leisure.
This was a wonderful walking historical food tour, with an excellent host to guide us along the way. If you haven’t experienced a walking food tour on your travels, then you don’t know what you’re missing!
If you’re visiting St. John’s, then be sure to schedule a tour during your stay.
You’ll be glad you did!
Update 2025
Unfortunately, it appears NL Food Tours may no longer be in business, in all likelihood, due to the Covid-19 pandemic that has affected so many. With a quick google search, there are other food tours to choose from in the city.
Guided food tours are a great way to see the sites and sample local dishes at your chosen destination.
If you are traveling to St. John’s, I’ve included the official Destination St. John’s Tourism website. It’s filled with excellent information for planning your visit to this city.
