If you find yourself traveling to Vancouver Island on Canada’s west coast, then be sure to take a break and enjoy a pleasant walk on the …
🥾 Lighthouse Country Regional Trail
This is a beautiful walking trail taking you back to nature, and where you can also see some of the Island’s incredible Douglas Fir trees.
Lighthouse Country Regional Trail – Location
If you’re traveling up Island from the Capital City of Victoria, British Columbia on the most southern tip of Vancouver Island, this trail is a great place to stop and take a break.
The trail is located just north of my home and the popular beach resort town of Parksville, BC.
It’s approximately a 2 1/2 hour drive from Victoria to this Regional Trail. It’s ideally located for those staying in and around Parksville and/or Qualicum Beach, located just a few minutes drive up the old island highway.
The trail is actually located in the small coastal community of; Bowser, BC.
Lighthouse Country Regional Trail – Access
There’s a convenient south Loop parking lot located at the end of Lioness Blvd (off Lions Way and the Old Island Hwy 19A, in the tiny community of; Qualicum Bay.
There’s also a North Loop at the {Wildwood Community Park} parking lot, which is located on McColl Rd in the community of Bowser. The entrance is just one block inland off the old island coastal Hwy 19A.
Grab a Parksville/Qualicum Beach tourist guide at any British Columbia tourist information center, or just ask a local, they’ll be happy to tell you how to get there!
I’ve also listed the Official Parksville/Qualicum Beach website link below, where you can access much more detailed information.

Easy Walking Trail And Wheel Chair Accessible
The Regional District of Nanaimo and local volunteers have done a wonderful job of grooming this easy level trail, making it excellent for those requiring wheel chair or motorized wheel chair accessibility.
This beautiful nature trail leads you through dense forest for approximately 2.5 km.
There’s benches to rest on along the route, some wood carvings to look out for and even a “tapping rail” for those who are visually or balanced challenged.
The trail winds its way through a lovely old growth Douglas Fir forest, with a few fish-bearing streams and an assortment of interpretive information plaques along the trail as well.
It’s a great place to escape the summer heat, with the tall timbers providing cool shade. As well, you can enjoy a picnic lunch at either parking lot, where the district has even provided clean porta toilets for your convenience.
If it happens to be baseball season, located at the Wildwood Community Park, there’s a concession open that serves outstanding burgers and fries!
The Trail Is Pet Friendly
Yes, even your friendly pooch can join you on the trail, making for a great walk for both you and your pet. Remember to keep your four-legged friend on a leash at all times.
If you’re looking for a great place to stop, take a break, get a little exercise and enjoy nature at the same time, Lighthouse Country Regional Trail is just the ticket!
Check it out the next time you’re in the area!
