LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – A blighted property in South is set to get new life as officials unveiled plans for redevelopment.
Lansing Mayor Andy Schor and Novi Properties spoke Tuesday at 820 Miller Road, a run-down property that will eventually become the home of a laundromat, event space, brunch restaurant and more.
This project was approved for a Brownfield Plan and accelerated reimbursement loan, a Facade Improvement Grant, and a Revitalization and Placemaking Grant.
Lansing developers Melissa White and James Denning of Novi Properties were participants in the first cohort of the Lansing EDC’s emerging developers SEED Academy — a program designed to build capacity for emerging developers, enhance their ability to undertake projects and increase their competitiveness as Lansing’s real estate development market grows.
White, speaking at Tuesday’s event, said the former property has been neglected for years, with windows often being broken and people dumping their trash at the site.
Schor said what the property used to be is not a reflection of the South Lansing community, but the new plans will be.
Denning says the new plans — which are in the process of being finalized — include a pick-up and delivery service in the space of a former 7-Eleven, next to what will become the laundromat.
The former sight of the nightclub, Auggie’s, will be split into two units — one for an event space, and one for a restaurant that Denning hopes will become a brunch spot. A former recording studio on the property will become an office for White and Denning.
Lansing Mayor Andy Schor joined officials from Novi Properties to detail plans for a new development at a blighted site on Miller Road in South Lansing.
